Upgrade to kernel 5.1.5 induces mouse wheel problems

Post by flexoron » Sat Jun 15, 2019 1:45

Hello,
after switching to kernel 5.1.5, mouse wheel scrolling speed is decelerated.
Even firefox, chrome, terminals differ about that.
(Chrome dead slow, firefox slow, terminals stutter)
Needless to say, it is unusable.

It seems it is a hardware-independent kernel series 5 issue with scrolling.
Switched back to kernel 4.20 for now.

Does anybody experience similar problems?

Re: Upgrade to kernel 5.1.5 induces mouse wheel problems [Solved]

The problem goes away if not Roccat(Kone) mouse.

/lib/modules/4.20.0-sabayon/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-roccat.ko
/lib/modules/4.20.0-sabayon/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-roccat_kone.ko <--- Good

/lib/modules/5.1.0-sabayon/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-roccat.ko
/lib/modules/5.1.0-sabayon/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-roccat_kone.ko <--- Bad

In other words it is a kernel 5.1.0 roccat(kone) driver issue.

Not really solved and not really a serious issue.
thnx

Pay attention.
There are several "kone" drivers (without the underscore in the name)

Code: Select all

ls /lib/modules/5.1.0-sabayon/kernel/drivers/hid/ | grep roccat
hid-roccat-arvo.ko
hid-roccat-common.ko
hid-roccat-isku.ko
hid-roccat.ko
hid-roccat-kone.ko
hid-roccat-koneplus.ko
hid-roccat-konepure.ko
hid-roccat-kovaplus.ko
hid-roccat-lua.ko
hid-roccat-pyra.ko
hid-roccat-ryos.ko
hid-roccat-savu.ko
Check wich files there was installed for both kernels (if both installed)

Code: Select all

$ equo q files linux-sabayon:{5.1,4.20} | grep kone
╠ ### /lib/modules/5.1.0-sabayon/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-roccat-kone.ko
╠ ### /lib/modules/5.1.0-sabayon/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-roccat-koneplus.ko
╠ ### /lib/modules/5.1.0-sabayon/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-roccat-konepure.ko
╠ ### /lib/modules/4.20.0-sabayon/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-roccat-kone.ko
╠ ### /lib/modules/4.20.0-sabayon/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-roccat-koneplus.ko
╠ ### /lib/modules/4.20.0-sabayon/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-roccat-konepure.ko

Hi,
yes...these are different Roccat models: Kone, Koneplus, Arvo, Lua ....
I've a Kone.

Code: Select all

# lsmod | grep roccat
hid_roccat_kone 20480 0
hid_roccat 16384 1 hid_roccat_kone
Kernel 5 implements a feature called high resolution smooth scrolling, I guess.
Seems that Roccat drivers need adaption.
Next, I'll try to disable the driver but then I loose the ability manipulating
the mouse with these programs: roccateventhandler, roccatkoneconfig, roccatkonecontrol

thank you for the hint.

Hello,

I have Logitech mice, I think they work fine, the drive also fine.
But, randomly, when I log into KDE, seems to be a problem that makes them "slow" regarding the wheel action.
It happens in 1/10 cases, and logging out and back solves the situation.
