Google Titan Security key and Sabayon [Solved]

Post by johnlgalt » Wed Jun 05, 2019 19:40

Hi,

Been using Sabayon on my laptops for quite a while now. I've posted a couple of times in order to get help in the past, but mostly just forged ahead on my own, and I am happy with my setup.

Last September I purchased a Titan Security key, and I've since used it to lock down all my Google accounts, as well as other accounts that support using this particular key (E.g. Microsoft accounts now allow for use of keys that support FIDO 2, but the Titan does not (yet, hopefully) support FIDO 2, only the original FIDO standard).

My issue is that all of this was done from a WinX box, and all the accounts work perfectly fine both there as well as on my Android phone. As I was in the process of selling my home and then moving to my new home, I put off setting up the keys on my Sabayon laptops.

Now, I've got time, particularly since my WinX machine is a gaming desktop, and I have not set it u yet, so my only avenues for all things online are my phone and my laptops. And I am trying to get my key to be recognized by Firefox Nightly 69.0a1 (2019-06-04) (64-bit) (binary from Mozilla) and it does not, whereas in the Firefox Nightly for Windows (also binary from Mozilla) it works perfectly fine.

I've done a lot of searching, and the easiest way to sum it up is to read the OP in this Gentoo thread: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1 ... ight-.html - in which I have also replied.

Has anyone gotten these keys to work successfully in Sabayon? If so, any advice on what I need to do?

I can (and am very willing to) supply any additional info as needed.

OK, so I found the answer on a blog:

https://blog.stevegriffith.nyc/posts/titan-key-arch/

Works exactly as advertised.

For more info, this is the actual reason that the Google method does not work:
