Re: Unusable: Auto-logout after weekly update

Post by VolvoBirkenstock » Sat Dec 01, 2018 21:33

I decided to post excerpts from "dmesg" and "journalctl -xb", thinking that it might help diagnose the issue. What is provided below is from my desktop. Note that this all apparently occurs subsequent to my use of "Control D" in response to the following message provided during boot:

Code: Select all

Starting version 239
You are in emergency mode. After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view
system logs. "systemctl reboot" to reboot, "systemctl default" or exit
to boot into default mode.
Give root password for maintenance
(or press Control-D to continue):
The only "error" found in dmesg output:

Code: Select all

[ 16.685002] udisks-lvm-pv-e[930]: segfault at 0 ip 000055d275620069 sp 00007ffc65a825d0 error 4 in udisks-lvm-pv-export[55d27561f000+2000]
The following "error" list has been extracted from an extensive "journalctl -xb" output":

Code: Select all

Re: Unusable: Auto-logout after weekly update

Post by VolvoBirkenstock » Mon Dec 03, 2018 2:49

Hello again.

This paragraph discusses my laptop, which I had previously thought was fixed by manipulations in previous posts in this thread. When I attempted to upgrade my laptop yesterday, I found that I had no network connections; no LAN and no Wireless. I tried to figure out root cause, but eventually gave up and performed an LFC. I now have a fully functional laptop.

Switching back to discussing the desktop now. I am considering performing an LFC. It will be extremely time-consuming for reasons previously posted. I will consider starting that process a week from now, when I have a little more time available.

Thank you very much for your patience.

I had the same problem after systemd upgrade on my sabayon-spin but non for all my installation

You can try to see if old systemd tbz2 package is still in your harddrive .
Downloaded packages are stored in /var/lib/entropy/ packages/packages/amd64/5 directory

If you don't have clenup the entropy cache , systemd-233.x should be placed inside sys-apps subdirectory.

something like : sys-apps:systemd-233.x.<package-hash>.tbz2

you can try to install systemd standalone package typing the full pacth of the package
Locate the package name and path and install

Code: Select all

# equo i /var/lib/entropy/client/package/../../sys-apps/sys-apps:systemd-233.x.<package-hash>.tbz2
I fixed my testing image

Usually I perform a backup of installed packages see

Code: Select all

equo pkg quickpkg -h
So I've restored the old systemd package.

THANK YOU, sabayonino.

I did exactly as you instructed and reinstalled version 233. All is well after reboot. I am marking this as "Solved".

For added bonus, you taught me two more equo manipulation of which I was unaware.

THANK YOU!!!

Systemd update (systemd 239.x ) still have some issue . My sabayon spin shows some dbus error and can't connect to the Networkmanager and I can't login in.

Other insatllations was fully upgraded without any errors .

Pay attention : do not run

Code: Select all

# equo cleanup
mv/copy systemd-233.tbz2 or create a tbz . You can mask systemd-239

Code: Select all

# equo mask "=sys-apps/systemd-239-r2"
and backup old version

Code: Select all

# mkdir -p /root/entropy/sys-apps
# equo pkg quickpkg --savedir /root/entropy sys-apps/systemd
category sys-apps must be exists , if not , you must create it .

Hi, sabayonino.

When I try to execute:

Code: Select all

$ su
$ equo mask "=sys-apps/systemd-239-r2"
I see the following result:

Code: Select all

╠ ## [M] =sys-apps/systemd-239-r2
╠     -> sys-apps/systemd-239-r2
☛ !!!
☛ !!! Warning: =sys-apps/systemd-239-r2 action not executed.
☛ !!!
╠ Have a nice day.
Why is it failing to work?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi,
Thanks to joost for the tip. It fixes the upgrade issue I had.
(My laptop has been installed in 2013).
