Kernels are not longer showing up Rigo

Post by themouseNZ » Tue Oct 09, 2018 23:48

I have been using Sabayon-KDE for several months now and it has become by go-to Distro out of all of them. I have found it to be a very smooth and stable experience. Several updates ago the 'Show Available installable Kernels' suddenly had no listings at all and the 'Show Available Long-Term-Stable kernels' was empty also. Now all I have is 'Linux Binary 0' and 'Linux Binary LTS 0' under the Available installable kernels and 'Linux Binary LTS 0' under the LTS kernel menu. What is the best way of installing kernels at the moment and any idea when this will be fixed? I tried to install 4.18 from the command line but was not very successful. I also have a new machine (HP x360 Envy with the AMD ryzen) and I believe it will need the 4.19 kernel when it becomes available as its not usable on Sabayon at the moment. Thanks

I don't use Rigo, so can't advise you about that, but see the following blog post for how to install kernel images properly in Sabayon Linux: https://fitzcarraldoblog.wordpress.com/ ... yon-linux/

Thanks that worked great (much better to follow than the wiki page). It would be nice if Rigo worked again thou. Hopefully a future update will bring that functionality back.

Reported the same or similar already in the past: Bug 5104 missing keywords for kernels.
I have noticed a new package:

Code: Select all

$ equo s -vq lts
virtual/linux-binary-lts-0
So maybe the functionality is managed differently now.

Maybe the devs are preparing for a change of some kind. Will wait and see, now at least I can install a new kernel and make it work so its not so bad.

In my system, fully upgraded, today, 10/18/2018, kernel 4.18:

viewtopic.php?f=57&t=34052&start=10

in RIGO, i see only the virtual kernels:

virtual/linux-binary

bu if you want to see all the available kernels, you may search in RIGO, using the keyword "linux-sabayon". You will see the old kernels 4.4. and 4.9, the 4.14, LTS, "normal" kernel and the new 4.18.13 kernel.

commands, for example,

Code: Select all

$ equo s linux-sabayon
show all kernels. Example in my system:

http://uploaddeimagens.com.br/imagens/novosquer-png

the regular LTS kernel is 4.14, bu i'm using the 4.18.13

In Sabayon, mainly i use commands, but sometimes and for tests, i use RIGO also.
