Kernel Switcher broken? [Solved]

Post by andreios » Fri Sep 07, 2018 9:44

Until now I always used the kernel switcher. But now since last update I get only this message.

Code: Select all

kernel-switcher switch linux-sabayon-4.18.6
☢ Not a kernel: linux-sabayon-4.18.6

When I list the available kernels I get this:

Code: Select all

 /usr/bin/kernel-switcher list

yep, I'm seeing the same thing. Looks like a newly introduced regression. Did you file a bug report?

It also breaks the switching functionality because it can't find the kernel when you attempt to switch to it (which makes sense because it's probably using the same kernel list mechanism).

Hi, I have a related issue.
I have the following installed kernel:

Code: Select all

uname -a
Linux USC 4.17.0-sabayon #1 SMP Sun Aug 26 22:18:54 UTC 2018 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
But it is not listed:

Code: Select all

kernel-switcher list

If I try to switch to 4.18, it will fall in a console and can't start KDE anymore (does not install all the other kernel dependencies, modules and drivers?).

Please advice.

What's the error message?

Can't find an error message. It looks like it does not load modules and drivers because the kernel messages are few.
I assume no video drivers are installed for this kernel at all.

4.16 and 4.17 kernels are dropped. (they are EOL)

The kernel-switcher tool still is a bit broken.
As a workaround use it like this:

Code: Select all

kernel-switcher switch <kernel_you_want> --from-running
