I didn't have UEFI either on this particular computer.
For my level, the Sabayon 6 installer was easier...

Re: Fresh install on existing partition [Solved]
I actually used Arch for a while on my laptop. Their documentation is great, as is their AUR. However, I had system breakages from just doing standard upgrades (unable to boot DE, unable to mount encrypted root). Asking about those breakages on their forums generally yielded a hostile response. I don't disagree that Sabayon's installer could use attention (like stated, the switch back to Calamares for all DEs will be a very good thing), but I've found the maintenance of keeping a Sabayon system up to date with less breakages to be much easier.
Obviously this is just my experience and opinion, and I am very experienced* with Sabayon at this point.
*Man, I've been on these forums for over a decade!

Indeed, Sabayon has a great capacity of recovery and it is so easy and reliable to upgrade!
Still, I'd like it to be more flexible regarding the packages, although I understand the Gentoo dependency.

Sorry for the troubles. For administrative reasons we are currently locked out of our wiki :shock:msdobrescu wrote: ↑Thu Jun 28, 2018 21:54After trying again and again, I have come to the conclusion it is impossible. The graphical install tool doesn't work like in the wiki anymore.
The text one won't start at all, remaining in a blinking prompt mode forever. Great!
For a wide range of hardware it is simpler. Maybe you just happened to have an unlucky combination :-/
The tone of some community members can be a bit ... tough here at times, too. But I consider it not as hostile as Gentoo's (at least in the circles I had contact with).
I'm trying hard to not let it get hostile here. But sometimes people just don't get "jokes". Keep that in mind, to not take everything literally!
Thank you!
You're getting old :-D

Well, you actually have a great flexibility by falling back to Gentoo.msdobrescu wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 20:15Indeed, Sabayon has a great capacity of recovery and it is so easy and reliable to upgrade!

Maybe better to contact optiz0r first, to get certain packages offered in SCR, though (use Bugzilla for that, please)

Yes, I know. But now I have run into other weird problem.
I did a full update and upgrade, using the sabayonlinux.org repo (the only one activated at the moment).
And I have rebooted it. From then, I get:
What is that??

Please open another thread, because this one is marked as solve and hence will get less attention.
