an update ordeal, revolving login screen [Solved]

Postby agryppa » Thu Jun 25, 2009 14:52

Hi,
When I try to login via KDE4.2 profile the login screen first accepts the passwrod and then shows the credensials dialog again. I can login via console and via fluxbox profile, but not via KDE4.2.

What to do?

thank you for answers.

Try removing ~./kde*

Again, please use [code] tags for large logs, thanks

Hi,
the removal of .kde and .kde4.2 has not produce any outcome. The login screen come back after accepting the credentials. It must be something between kdm and the rest of kde because Fluxbox goes in smoothly.

do you have any other ideas to try out?

Thanks, Agryppa

Through the VT try to have a look to ~/.xsession-errors there you shoud find the reason why KDE fails and KDM respawns to login screen.

Cheers.

you have bad opengl files, that is why kde won't start and fluxbox will. KDE is a composited window manager and needs that support. So I would troubleshoot your opengl issue first.
If you check the wiki, use the search function and google you can find the answer to most of your questions.

Remember to mark your thread [Solved] if your issue is fixed.

You need to switch your opengl libary.

This can be done using the wonderful eselect tool.

Code: Select all
eselect opengl set nvidia

This can be nvidia or ati for the binary drivers or xorg-x11 for any xorg driver

One issue has been resolved: the revolving login screen of KDE profile. What sufficed was a reinstallation of nvidia-drivers package via:
Code: Select all
equo install nvidia-drivers

Some issues remain though and I will continue to ask in another thread.

thank you.
