TexLive Sabayon package misses important files [Solved]

Postby archwndas » Mon May 04, 2009 18:14

Dear all,

as you know LaTeX is by far the main environment for writing scientific documents. However the package provided in entropy is not complete. Here is what I get when I try to compile the following example file. Save the latex beamer file as example.tex and try to run:

$pdflatex example.tex

You will see the following error. It gets much worse if you include pictures.

! LaTeX Error: File `fullpage.sty' not found.

Type X to quit or <RETURN> to proceed,
or enter new name. (Default extension: sty)

Enter file name:

The example.tex follows. The forum does not allow me to attach it as it ends to .tex. I would like to mention that the Ubuntu/Debian package is full and works fine. I am talking about the one you install by typing:

$ sudo apt-get install texlive-full

Code: Select all
\documentclass[handout]{beamer}
%\documentclass{beamer}
{
  \usepackage{beamerbasearticle}
  \usepackage{fullpage}
  \usepackage{hyperref}
  \usepackage{amssymb}
}
\usepackage{pgf,pgfarrows,pgfnodes,pgfautomata,pgfheaps,pgfshade}
\usepackage{amsmath,amscd,amssymb}
\usepackage{colortbl}

\usepackage[english]{babel}

\mode<presentation>
{
  \usetheme{CambridgeUS}
  \setbeamertemplate{navigation symbols}{}
}

Googling shows that some Ubuntu users have the same error message. From a cursory look at a couple of Gentoo ebuilds it appears that the file fullpage.sty is installed by one of the packages dev-texlive/texlive-latexextra app-text/tetex app-text/ptex dev-tex/hevea, so try installing those (start with texlive-latexextra) to see if it fixes the problem.

Only dev-tex/hevea exists in entropy. The others do not. Where did you find them by the way? I installed hevea but the problem exists. And as it regards Ubuntu, trust me, if you install

$apt-get install texlive-full

everything is there. You have no problems at all.

Cheers!

Looking at the Ubuntu forum posts it looks very likely to me that the file you're missing comes with dev-texlive/texlive-latexextra, which is why I suggested you try that one first. If they're not yet in an Entropy repository, try installing it using Portage, where they all exist (plus more). If you find a fix, request that the missing package be added to Entropy: Requesting Packages for Entropy - New Policy

The questions is how do I install portage?

Is it enough to do:

#emerge --sync

like the old days?

Portage is already installed. Just do:

Code: Select all
emerge --sync
layman -S
emerge <packagename>

Just like the old days, as you say.

I installed the missing packages from Gentoo's portage. So what should be added in Sabayon's package are:

$ emerge texlive-latexextra
$ emerge texlive-pstricks

I do not know how to do it myself.

So it's now all working for you?

I'm not sure what you mean by "I do not know how to do it myself." If you are referring to inserting the packages in the Entropy repository, all you need to do is request it using the procedure in the thread Requesting Packages for Entropy - New Policy.

If your problem is now solved then please edit your first post and add [Solved] to the title of the post. Also, you may want to send a PM to joost as he requested. I expect that either he wants to make sure that the missing packages are added or he has a similar problem to the one you had.

EDIT 8 June: Oh well, I'll add it then. :roll:
