equo will not update Database does not exist online [Solved]

Postby a lemming » Fri May 01, 2009 4:10

I have just reinstalled Sabayon 4.0 (I'd install 4.1 but I don't have that iso, and it's a pain to download at my internet speed), and everything works fine except equo will not update.

I type:
#equo update

and it gives the output:
Code: Select all

(spritz does not update either, but I thought that putting it's output down would be redundant.)

Since it's freshly installed OS I can't tell if the problem is with me, or if the problem lies elsewhere.

Any help appreciated. Thx :)

That's link is not really going to help this time wolfden. Since the first command to run that that link gives is "equo update" which is what is not working for a lemming.

Looks to me like it's network issues. I would wait a little bit and try again later.
If you check the wiki, use the search function and google you can find the answer to most of your questions.

Remember to mark your thread [Solved] if your issue is fixed.

If that does not work you might have the same problem as me and would have to rsync it.

viewtopic.php?f=76&t=16392

Next regenerate equo and then equo update and it should be fine pulling in last parts to be up-to-date.

Wolfden: Kodiakmax is right, that link did not work for me :(

Kodiakmax: That's what I was thinking it was, but it's a few days now so I'm not so sure.

WarraWarra: that first bit of code (rsync rPmHz...) did what it was supposed to, but when I regenerated the cache in Spritz and tried to update the repository, I still got the same output as I did before, and my revision number stayed at 716.

The second bit of code gave me this output:
# tar xvjf /var/lib/entropy/client/database/x86/sabayonlinux.org/standard/x86/4/package.db.bz2
Code: Select all
tar: /var/lib/entropy/client/database/x86/sabayonlinux.org/standard/x86/4/package.db.bz2: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

To all: I'm going to be gone for the next 2, maybe 3, days, so I won't be able to test the next steps you write until I get back, but feel free to post them :)

Thanks again everyone :D

It will if you read further down about if you have a problem running equo update to use emerge from overlay and update it than try equo update

I did read that part, but it still didn't work.

I did the # emerge --sync && layman -S command, and it did everything it was supposed to do.

But when I did the # emerge entropy equo spritz command, it gave this output:

Code: Select all
Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "~sys-apps/entropy-0.24.1".
(dependency required by "app-admin/spritz-0.24.1" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "spritz" [argument])

Patience is a virgin

Remember this is not a spoon feed distro or forums so you would find something we mention that is either the solution or will lead you in a direction to get a solution that is what linux is about.

I found this only by trail and error after 8 installs and about 73 things I tried as alternatives, but hey I am blond so who would have guessed it took me so long LOL.

Okay if you read the link I posted you would see that the short cut I did not try that I posted has a original idea / working version. My shortcut has sound idea but lacks testing.

From link above's post.

Actual what happened:
Code: Select all
rsync -rPmHz rsync://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/sabayonlinux/entropy/standard/sabayonlinux.org/database/x86/4/  /var/lib/entropy/client/database/x86/sabayonlinux.org/standard/x86/4

tweaked ~ # [/quote]

Then I ran the regenerate option in spritz or equo as you please as it is needed and then config update and normal equo update.

Bam you have this solved and it gets the latest version of equo and you can update and use equo as normal.

If you copy above then you will have to remove the tweaked and # so only copy the rsync as in example below:
Code: Select all
rsync -rPmHz rsync://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/sabayonlinux/entropy/standard/sabayonlinux.org/database/x86/4/  /var/lib/entropy/client/database/x86/sabayonlinux.org/standard/x86/4

The ports 1026 and 1027 used by equo to sync is getting blocked by ISP's "internet service providers"

So just because me and you both have retarded ISP's with idiots working at them spreading worms with their anti worms firewall software we have issues updating equo.

Remember everytime you install SL on that ISP you would need to rsync like this, yes me too 12 times so far in the last 6 weeks and I was too stupid to backup a copy of this files.

I bet 20 hot air balloons with little green men smoking weed on Mars that most users will only copy and paste this and not read this above and so learn nothing useful. :alien:
