VirtualBox 2.2.0 Not Ready for Entropy

Postby dunsurfin » Sun Apr 26, 2009 22:38

I believe it was a mistake to put the latest VitualBox (2.2.0) into Entropy as it is not, in my opinion, ready to use. My virtual XP hangs unless I disable the USB devices. (I found that was the problem by creating a new one that worked well until I enabled USB devices and it then froze at the same point as my original and then found that the original booted OK once I had disabled the USB devices.).

Just found a workaround for the USB problem on the Vbox pages. Add Null USB devices, boot the guest OS (in my case XP) then plug the usb devices in and enable them from "Devices" once the OS is running.

Think it was a autobuild script that did the building we will just have to blacklist it / mask it so it does not get installed.

Still waiting on virtualbox to fix the achi sata and ich6 emulators as this causes it.
They pushed this 2.2.0 version for the IBM merger that failed and now Oracle might be interested so do not expect a fix soon from them.

Try using piix4 instead of ich6 and either scsi or ide hard drive emulation and it should work fine even with usb = on hopefully.

Mine is already set to that and I can only use USB with the workaround. Fortunately that's no great hardship.

Where to? It's already reported on Vbox and it's not a Sabayon bug. Does the fact that it's not ready for inclusion mean it should be reported as a Sabayon bug?

If its messing up a sabayon install ~ esp due to an entropy package (a bump of a included by default package), I would say it was a sabayon bug, but thats just me =P
