In general this problem is momentaneous. repositories out in one time...

you may try:

Code: Select all
su
equo update --force

if this works, after, make:

Code: Select all
equo install --ask equo
equo update

For those first-boot into newly installed 4.0 equo update hangs after Notice Board. Abort that (close window) then do the equo install equo, equo update, etc...
Caveat: Do not update all blindly!!

Is there a wiki or post on a proper way to update after a new install of Sabayon 4 ?

I have tried all this and no matter what I do equo (or spritz) locks up
I read the above post and tried 'equo install equo' - it looked like it finished but never came back to a cmd prompt.
The last notice/test it had was "please run equo conf update"
If I close the terminal (which i never like to do) - and run that command - it did finish
I could not run equo update as it was still running from my closed xterm.
I rebooted - I proly should have just killed it - then ran 'equo update'
it now finishes!

this then let me equo install xchat (just an example - I like irssi) and it worked fine.

So (at least for me) After a new install and before anything else -
equo install (even though it does not completely finish) kill it or reboot)
equo conf update (I picked merge all - no confirm)
equo update - it will finish

Thanks All
Cheers Charlie

If many packages can be updatet, the commands running may be very slow!
"please run equo conf update" may apeears prior to the final execution.
you need to rerun and wait until finished...
if you used the r1 sabayon 4.0 version, the full dvd. it have 3 month... more than 1000 packages, can be updated...
reboot and run
run in this order (ONLY ONE INSTANCE)

first:

$ su
# equo update

after finished,

#equo install equo
anf after finished,

#equo conf update

You only may use, one terminal opened, only one instance...

No joy with this and 4.1 Gnome.

Keeps on failing.

Can fabio change the port or add a extra port as likely this is seen as a flood attack by some ISP's or as Torrent traffic and so gets locked / blocked.

Alternatively the server tweaks I asked for for the SA server / mirrors might be able to compensate for lag if lag is causing this.

The settings are as follows:

(These are sysctl settings)

net.core.rmem_max = 16000000

net.core.wmem_max = 16000000

net.ipv4.tcp_wmem = "128000 256000 2048000"

net.ipv4.tcp_rmem = "128000 256000 2048000"

net.ipv4.tcp_rfc1337 =1

Once these are set we should be able to sync at decent speeds.

Had some strange Spritz behavior today: System 4.1 (running updated) hangs after a long time trying to open up graphical window. But when I log in as root (graphic login) Spritz behaves normally, fix packages automatically and updated OK. Go figure

Just Re-installed 4.1 UMPC this time and still no joy so I try cheating past the blockage and it works / busy updating.
Happy updating.

How-to:
Temp cheat to get packages.db.bz2

Change x86 to amd64 etc , see link below to get your version: "server Auto Updated each night "

Link:
http://na.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/sabayonlinux/entropy/standard/sabayonlinux.org/database/x86/4/

You can either get the packages.db.bz2 as well as packages.db.md5 and a few others like example below here or whole as in "What happens example" further down the page.

Note> when rsync see " source/somewhere/ " and " destination/somewhere " the / on destination is missing , if / is there is will create the /4 sub-folder inside /4 folder.

Example:
Code: Select all
rsync -urPmHz rsync://na.mirror.garr.it/sabayonlinux/entropy/standard/sabayonlinux.org/database/x86/4/  /var/lib/entropy/client/database/x86/sabayonlinux.org/standard/x86/4

I just downloaded the whole x86/4 about 400mb.

Then launched Spritz and it takes a min to get with it then click it's orange rss type icon and press Regenerate Cache.

That did it for me and is now working. Rev 850

What happens:
Code: Select all
tweaked ~ # rsync -urPmHz rsync://na.mirror.garr.it/sabayonlinux/entropy/standard/sabayonlinux.org/database/x86/4/  /var/lib/entropy/client/database/x86/sabayonlinux.org/standard/x86/4
