>>> Installing sys-kernel/linux-sabayon-2.6.28
* This package will overwrite one or more files that may belong to other
* packages (see list below). You can use a command such as `portageq
* owners / <filename>` to identify the installed package that owns a
* file. If portageq reports that only one package owns a file then do
* NOT file a bug report. A bug report is only useful if it identifies at
* least two or more packages that are known to install the same file(s).
* If a collision occurs and you can not explain where the file came from
* then you should simply ignore the collision since there is not enough
* information to determine if a real problem exists. Please do NOT file
* a bug report at http://bugs.gentoo.org unless you report exactly which
* two packages install the same file(s). Once again, please do NOT file
* a bug report unless you have completely understood the above message.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm running into this problem again with the 2.6.29 kernel.

My solution was to add this line to my /etc/make.conf:
Code: Select all
COLLISION_IGNORE="/lib/firmware"
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750@ 2.66GHz
nVidia GeForce 7600 GS
2 GB RAM

This is one solution, but is valid only /lib/firmware collisions, in general must remove manually all file collision.

Usually, I'll try to fix a problem like this so there isn't any collisions, but this is the only part of the kernel that isn't slotted.

So I guess for now, I've settled for limiting allowable collisions to the /lib/firmware directory, and hope the upsteam kernel people find a way to slot this in the future.
