HTTP proxy problem

Postby sleep`walker » Sat Mar 21, 2009 23:28

Hi all!

I'm new here.
I downloaded Sabayon 4 (LiteMCE) and try it from a "live mode". I want to try Spritz/Equo, but I have problems with my proxy server.
The computer is behind HTTP (connection) proxy that requires (plaintext) autentification, and I can't make equo nor spritz to work with the proxy. Exporting http_proxy (https_proxy, ftp_proxy, ...) environment variables from BASH before running equo don't solve the problem.
Also, configuring Spritz from it's GUI to use the proxy results with no connection. In both cases I finished up with a message that says something like "You're not connected to the internet. You should."

Now, is there a way to make the programs to use my proxy?
btw: The proxy allows access to public servers at ports 80 and 443. Does Sabayon repo servers listen to this ports? If not, is there any mirror that do so?

btw2: Is it safe to use portage ant equo on the same system? I don't want to finish up with a broken system once I install Sabayon ;)

Sty for my poor english, and tnx for answering.

Hello, welcome to sabayon forums!

Unfortunately I cannot help you with your proxy problems, I can tell you that the latest
releases of equo/spritz have done great progresses, so maybe they will be able to get configured properly.

Using portage and entropy on the same machine is safe, but requires a certain knowledge by the user.
Usually most users use entropy for common tasks and emerge for particular circumstances, like the package not
being available in entropy or for the necessity of removing some dependencies.

hi,
If you want use proxy with equo, you modify this file /etc/entropy/entropy.conf
Code: Select all
#
#  syntax for http-proxy:
#
#    http-proxy: If you connect to the Internet through a proxy, add the URL for HTTP connections here
#    http-proxy|<URL string>
#
#    example:
#    http-proxy|http://127.0.0.1:3128
#
# FTP Proxy default setting
http-proxy|

#
#  syntax for proxy-username:
#
#    proxy-username: If your proxy needs authentication here is the place to put your username
#    proxy-username|<username>
#
#    example:
#    proxy-username|myfirstemployee
#
# Proxy username default setting
# proxy-username|

#
#  syntax for proxy-password:
#
#    proxy-password: If your proxy needs authentication here is the place to put your password
#    proxy-password|<username>
#
#    example:
#    proxy-password|myfirstemployeepassword
#
# Proxy password default setting
# proxy-password|

Thank you for answering.

That configuration file is just like it should be (I guess Spritz write the configuration here), however I still can't access Sabayon repos. I guess it's something about ports the repos' server is listenig to (since my proxy do not allows port tunelling - I can use 80 and 443 only).

Anyway, I'll, maybe, install Sabayon as I don't have time to build whole system, and use it with portage only (as a regular Gentoo system).

An "en passiant" question (to avoid creation of another topic just for this): Can I upgrade my Sabayon system from an installation DVD when next version become aviable?

Sabayon 4 became a rolling distro, so you could avoid using another DVD too.
