nvidia-driver update

Postby mpdefeo » Tue Mar 24, 2009 2:08

So today I installed amarok-2 from the Zanzana repository. One of the several packages that were installed was nvidia-driver-180.41-r1 which replaced my current nvidia driver(180.37-sabayon-etc....). I ran equo conf update. Then I ran emerge --sync and updated portage. When I installed portage it also installed nvidia-drivers-180.41. When I restarted X all I got was a blinking line. I checked the /var/log/Xorg.log and it shows me this.

Code: Select all
(EE) Failed to load module "type1" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) Failed to load module "freetype" (module does not exist, 0)
FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.28-sabayon/video/nvidia.ko): Invalid module format
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0):  *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

I tried to reinstall the stable nvidia drivers, but I still have not been able to start X without the error above. Any Ideas?

When I updated to nvidia-driver-180.41-r1, I also got a new kernel.

It wasn't clear in your post, so I have to ask if you rebooted to the new kernel.

I did reboot, and I got the same blinking cursor. I was able to boot in by reinstalling the stable version of nvidia-drivers.
