Wine troubles

Postby v2k » Sun Mar 15, 2009 22:24

I was having some crashes in wine. So I wanted the check the version of wine; and maybe update it.

Not know how to do so, I did:
Code: Select all
equo install wine

It installed 1.1.15 - which is the version I was already on as far as I know.

Code: Select all
equo update

did nothing, said I was up to date

Code: Select all
equo update --force

did something.

Code: Select all
equo install wine

installed 1.1.15 again??

Now, winecfg won't run. It just sits there. If I break it, I get:
Code: Select all
err:module:attach_process_dlls "winspool.drv" failed to initialize, aborting
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\windows\\system32\\winecfg.exe" failed, status c000013a

I don't know what I did, but I'd like wine back :(

I removed wine. Installed the lastest via emerge. Same problem.

winecfg just sits there
Code: Select all
winecfg
err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out

I unmerged wine, deleted .wine and emerged wine again, same problem.

I unmerged wine, deleted .wine and used equo install wine same problem.

Argh.

I've tried nuking .wine and reinstalling 1.1.15, and also 1.1.17. I still can't get winecfg (or anything to run)

winecfg gives no output.. it just sits there. sometimes I get:
Code: Select all
err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out

I was told to try this:

Code: Select all
equo remove wine --deep --configfiles
rm -rf ~/.wine
equo install wine

but it resulted in the same:
Code: Select all
winecfg
err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out

It just sits there...

after a long time... minutes, it pops up. Under the Drives tab it says it cannot connect to the mount manager:
Code: Select all
winecfg:open_mountmgr failed to open mount manager err 2

It popped up the 1st time, but hasn't popped up since.

I've been cleaning and reinstalling each time trying to get this to work.

I ran libtest, but I'm not sure if this means anything useful:

in make.conf i set:
Code: Select all
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64"

without that, it tries to build wine-1.1.17 but fails on:
Code: Select all
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy ">=sys-devel/gcc-4.4_alpha"

I tried masking this out in package.mask, but it wouldn't take.

Code: Select all
USE="X alsa cups dbus gecko gnutls hal jack jpeg ncurses opengl png xinerama xml win64" emerge wine

It built wine-1.1.12.

wincfg still failed to open sitting at:
Code: Select all
err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out

after about 5 minutes, it pops up:
Code: Select all
err:winecfg:open_mountmgr failed to open mount manager err 2
err:winecfg:open_mountmgr failed to open mount manager err 2

My theory here is that one of these two caused the badness:
Code: Select all
equo install wine
emerge mono

I was unable to recover the system and had to format it.
