Help: emerge problems [Solved]

Postby zambayoni » Fri Mar 06, 2009 13:38

HI, next to update system with srpitz, i has a problem with emerge, when use emerge --search:

Code: Select all
#emerge --search

!!! /etc/make.profile is not a symlink and will probably prevent most merges.
!!! It should point into a profile within /usr/portage/profiles/
!!! (You can safely ignore this message when syncing. It's harmless.)

!!! If you have just changed your profile configuration, you should revert
!!! back to the previous configuration. Due to your current profile being
!!! invalid, allowed actions are limited to --help, --info, --sync, and
!!! --version.

With error, emerge is limited, i can't install with emerge.

I searched the make.profile, and not exist.

I've had this problem in the past too, but cannot remember whether I solved it re-merging portage, downgrading portage or re-selecting my profile. I'm pretty sure it was the last of these, as the message you posted refers to your make.profile not being a symlink. In any case it should not do any harm to do it. In my case (x86_64) the available profiles are as listed below. Just use the eselect profile list command to find the available profiles for your installation and then use the eselect profile set command to set the appropriate one that is listed in your case ("desktop", most probably).

Code: Select all
acertm8215 fitzcarraldo # eselect profile list
Available profile symlink targets:
  [1]   hardened/amd64
  [2]   hardened/amd64/multilib
  [3]   selinux/2007.0/amd64
  [4]   selinux/2007.0/amd64/hardened
  [5]   default/linux/amd64/2008.0
  [6]   default/linux/amd64/2008.0/desktop *
  [7]   default/linux/amd64/2008.0/developer
  [8]   default/linux/amd64/2008.0/no-multilib
  [9]   default/linux/amd64/2008.0/server
  [10]  hardened/linux/amd64
acertm8215 fitzcarraldo # eselect profile set 6
