Question about trackerd and beagled [Solved]

Postby LaughingMan » Wed Aug 27, 2008 4:05

I noticed that trackerd was really monopolizing my cpu. After killing it, I did a little bit of research and I poked around in the install a bit and found that beagled was installed and running as well. I'm under the impression that they're both doing the same job of indexing (if i'm not mistaken). If I remove trackerd, will i still have search capability since beagle and beagled are installed and seem to be functioning?

Thanks

trackerd is the indexing backend for the Tracker package, and beagled is the indexing backend for Beagle.

So with trackerd disabled, you won't be able to search with the Tracker application.

Many users end up disabling both packages, and use their own methods for locating files, but if you use one package or the other on a regular basis (or both even), that's fine.
