Magic SYSRQ for inclusion in kernel-config request

Postby kerneloftruth » Mon Aug 13, 2007 2:30

Hi there,

I'm missing
Code: Select all
# CONFIG_MAGIC_SYSRQ is not set

Magic SYSRQ Key functionality that I e.g. can kill the X-server or emergency reboot if something weird's happening

many thanks in advance

Please include this. I know you can compile it yourself but it would get overwritten with each equo update. It's very necessary to have this when the computer locks up but the mouse is still movable.

Sabayon doesn't recognize skinny elephants-- why not?

Nearly every linux kernel recognizes the <Alt> <SysRq> RSEIUB (Raising Skinny Elephants is Utterly Boring) sequence when the computer locks up, but Sabayon does not. Why?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key

"if the CONFIG_MAGIC_SYSRQ option was enabled at kernel compile time, (it)allows the user to perform various low level commands regardless of the system's state using the SysRq key."

If you just press the power switch to recover from a hard lockup (which can have many causes -- one could be bad burn of a live DVD) your file system is often corrupted.

cause it's not compiled into the kernel

recompile kernel with the option

We've been thru this over and over in the past also - nothing new
