Gnome Users & groups GUI broken

Postby mktyap » Sun Jul 13, 2008 13:20

After installing 3.5 and login sabayonuser the /Systems/Admin/Users and groups launches with a blank table of Users Settings. However if you use KDE login Kusers work ok (except some thing about unable to write to passwd.bak, shadows.bak and groups.bak

Anyone having the same problem?

I also tried graphical root login and same empty Users and groups settings.

well to write to them you have to be root. but did you upgrade shadow or pam? sometimes shadow or pam upgrades lock you out

What should the chmod parameters for /etc/passwd, /etc/group and etc/shadow after upgrade?

you wont be able to log in if it broke it. if you got logged out youll have to boot from a live cd and recompile shadow. seeing that you havent complained about this its probably not the problem

It hasn't worked since like 3.25 release

I usually just install webmin and use that, great tool for total system control of everything

I believe it is something upstream - dunno, can't remember

Webmin is a great universal tool that works very well for administrating your system - highly recommend checking it out instead
