error message for audio and video files

Postby hadian » Tue Jul 08, 2008 16:05

i installed sabayon 3.5 on AMD cpu.
1.when i open an audio or video with mplayer file a error message widows pops up which says: [AO OSS] audio_setup: Can't open audio device /dev/dsp: No such file or directory. and then mplayer plays the file. also there is no problem when i open the file with other players like vlc.
2.the voice volume in sabayon is lower that what i have in windows or debian (the volume control is in highest position).

try alsamixer to raise the volume (sometimes there are more levels than you could ever imagine), and as for /dev/dsp - if your mike and speakers both work despite the message don't worry about it. Could be using /dev/dsp1 or something along those lines.
