Codeblocks crashes after it's been emerged correctly

Postby mhzuchini » Mon Mar 17, 2008 14:17

Hi, friends!

I've recently emerged "dev-util/codeblocks-1.0_pre20071215" on my SL notebook. Apparently, emerge has set up Code::Blocks correctly showing no errors. After that, I've tried to run Code::Blocks from command line but it crashed after a while. I was able to see the Code::Blocks' logo on screen for a second, but it was all I've got:

Code: Select all

I've been searching for some tips on such problem, but found none applicable to this problem (tips found include problems with wxWidgets, wxGTK, compiling problems and others. By the way, wxGTK is installed on my SL box: version 2.8.4.0).
Should I believe crash has something to do with "Added compiler "GNU GCC Compiler for TriCore"?

I would appreciate any help to show me any direction to search.

Thanks in advance!
Marcio.

No, if gcc was broken there'd be bigger signs than this, especially when you try to emerge stuff. this may have something to do with glibC, perhaps an incompatible version - looks like a function from one of your imported libraries is experiencing a segfault. Try recompiling glibc. You always can recompile gcc too if you'd like, but gcc upgrades should follow the gcc upgrade guide.

I've tried to compile codeblocks from source: I downloaded version 8.02, did "./configure ; make ; make install". As soon as I tried to run, I've got the exactly same error.
I found a link (http://wiki.codeblocks.org/index.php?ti ... _on_Gentoo) and realize that it's necessary to compile wxGTK with "gtk2" use flag. I also found that there is 2 wxGTK versions on my system:
Code: Select all
# equery list wxGTK
[ Searching for package 'wxGTK' in all categories among: ]
 * installed packages
[I--] [M ] x11-libs/wxGTK-2.6.3.3 (2.6)
[I--] [M~] x11-libs/wxGTK-2.8.4.0 (2.8)

None of installed wxGTK apparently have "gtk2" flag enabled:
Code: Select all
# equery uses wxGTK
[ Searching for packages matching wxGTK... ]
[ Colour Code : set unset ]
[ Legend : Left column  (U) - USE flags from make.conf              ]
[        : Right column (I) - USE flags packages was installed with ]
[ Found these USE variables for x11-libs/wxGTK-2.6.3.3 ]
 U I
 + + X        : Adds support for X11
 - - debug    : Enable extra debug codepaths, like asserts and extra output. If you want to get meaningful backtraces see http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/backtraces.xml
 - - doc      : Adds extra documentation (API, Javadoc, etc)
 + + gnome    : Adds GNOME support
+ + joystick : Add support for joysticks in all packages
 - - odbc     : Adds ODBC Support (Open DataBase Connectivity)
+ + opengl   : Adds support for OpenGL (3D graphics)
+ + sdl      : Adds support for Simple Direct Layer (media library)
+ + unicode  : Adds support for Unicode
[ Found these USE variables for x11-libs/wxGTK-2.8.4.0 ]

Do you think I should try to update wxGTK to a newer (and just one) version with "gtk2" flag before trying to recompile glibc?
I am just a little bit afraid to mess up with glibc...

do not crosspost

sorry I missed that before. Let me know if you'd rather be in this forum instead of Software in General.

Re: Codeblocks crashes after it's been emerged correctly

Hi, xlnagla

I'm really sorry if I broke any rules.
I only did that because I was not sure what would be the best forum to ask for help on this question.

In fact, I didn't receive any comments on "Software in General", but if you think that's the better choice, I accept it.

Regards,
Marcio.

okay, I'm sorry for the delay - if you haven't already what you were proposing is a fine idea. Also, glibc is generally safer to re-emerge these days, so don't worry too much about it.
