Some of my Compiz animations are laggy.

I recently switched to Sabayon Linux, and I am really liking it. The only real problem I have is that some Compiz Fusion animations, most noticeably the Burn animation, lag quite a bit. I encountered this problem while I still used Kubuntu, and ceasing use of fusion-icon fixed the problem.
However, when I try to compiz --replace, I get no window borders.
When I launch Compiz the same way fusion-icon does by using the following:
compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp
the lag is even worse; desktop cube and expo also lag very noticeably.
What other Compiz launch options can I try? Is there anything I can do to help reduce the lag if I have to use fusion-icon?

EDIT: In case it matters, my graphics card is an XFX GeForce 8600GT.
