installing Lazarus Free Pascal IDE from source

Post by tatamata » Sun Dec 16, 2007 17:37

Hello.

I installed Free Pascal compiler from source and then tried to install Lazarus IDE from source, by "make clean all". An error occured during linking:
Linking ../lazarus
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgdk
lazarus.pp(114,1) Error: Error while linking
lazarus.pp(114,1) Fatal: There were 1 errors compiling module, stopping
Fatal: Compilation aborted
make[2]: *** [lazarus] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/zlatko/LAZARUS/lazarus-0.9.24-0/lazarus/ide'
make[1]: *** [ide] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/zlatko/LAZARUS/lazarus-0.9.24-0/lazarus/ide'
make: *** [ide] Error 2

What is "lgdk"? What am I suppposed to do?
Please, be extensive in explaination, because, I'm new to Linux.
Thanks in advance,

Zlatko

An I need the most recent version (0.9.24) while in portage it is 0.9.22.

Hello all, Sorry to bother.

I'm trying to install lazarus on the brand new SABAYON 3.5 x86 but doesn't appear in portato or spritz.
I've downloaded the tarballs from the lazarus homepage, installed succefully the FPC but not lazarus.
It gives me the same error mentioned above of some GTK library not present.
I've looked in emerge, portato and spritz but i cant find any library related...
The error that gives me is

main.pp(1110,35) Warning: Constructing a class "TPkgManager" with abstract methods
Linking ../lazarus
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgdk_pixbuf
lazarus.pp(114,1) Error: Error while linking
lazarus.pp(114,1) Fatal: There were 1 errors compiling module, stopping
Fatal: Compilation aborted
make[2]: *** [lazarus] Error 1
make[2]: se sale del directorio `/home/caleb/lazarus/ide'
make[1]: *** [ide] Error 2
make[1]: se sale del directorio `/home/caleb/lazarus/ide'
make: *** [ide] Error 2
calebs lazarus #

Appearentely is missing lgd_pixbuf but i can't seem to find the package that contains it.
Any help could be useful... i like a lot sabayon, i would not want to change my linux distribution to make lazarus work...
Thanks in advanced.

our wiki has and explains the package managers

Look for entropy and or portage pending on which one u want to use

i'm watching the wiki, sorry i haven't figured to look there... now that i have another problem that i can't find any solution here in the forum or the wiki. I use spritz once but hangs and close it. When i try to use it again says:
"Otra instancia de Entropy está ejecutándose. No se puede realizar la petición." or in brute english (mine) another instance of entropy is running.
I've looked all around places, tried the kill comand, only found an entropy-system-demon but no help nor man pages for using it.
Is there any way to kill entropy or restart or anything that don't requires reboot computer? I've tried logging out and in again but that doesn't solve the problem.
Thanks

You need to delete the file '/var/lib/entropy/entropy.pid'

Searching on 'another instance of entropy is running' in the forums gives you this thread which contains the solution.
