Gnome problems

Postby prasoc » Thu Nov 22, 2007 22:52

Hello, I just installed gnome (simpler to use) version of sabayon and it is quite screwed up. compiz does not work with the wobbly windows, desktop cube and even the emerald theme manager doesnt work. I am stuck with the default theme manager and is is rubbish to say the least. Please respond,

I installed and use the last Sabayon, the full, F version in DVD, all works fine, bu my GNOME sessions are unstable, in common user sessions, viz, after a few moments, GNOME screens dissaperars and i see only the Sabayon Linux screen , and the session is loosed. No time for using any applications.....

When i used Sabayon for the first time, i had aproblem with accleration, Compiz etc...
I solved tihis, in my machine int htis manner:

Please, log the session as route.
in a prompt ( or Konqueror) navigate to: /boot/grub
open and edit ( fox ex. in kedit or in gedit) the file: menu.lst
(CAUTION MAKE A COPY OF THE FILI PRIOR TI EDIT)
editing, the file ADDING the foLLOWING commands, to the line of the boot kernel, viz, in the default boot line
of the menu lst:

opengl=nvidia ( or the name of your video board) res=1280x900 (or the resolution that you use) refresh=70 (or the refreshing rate that you use for your monitor) axgl sabayon

In the menu.lst, they are the lines for the default boot. These added commands will "forces" the kernel to use the specified resolution and open the video acceleration.

after editing, save the menu.lst file and reboot the machine, in orden to carry the new boot carachteristics.
Good Luck!
