Postby dado023 » Wed Nov 21, 2007 0:54

i have this crappy peace of hardware http://www.georgia.com.tw/Product%20Inf ... 1%20PI.htm

and when i plug it in usb while runing sabayon nothing happens., like it doesn't detect it.

What do i need to do to get this stupid av device working in sabayon.?
i just wanna capture video from my analog camera.
BTW: what software do you recommend for analog video(with sound) capture in sabayon?

my hardware:
laptop asus x51rs Series:
celeron m520
80gb
ram:512mb
gpu: ati readion xpress 1100

plug in card, then as root type ..

Code: Select all
lsusb

see if the device is recognised at all, if it is then ...

Code: Select all
dmesg | tail -50

That should give you some indication of the firmware its looking for. You can post the output of the commands here, or use the gentoo wiki to find out how to install.

thanks so much for quick response..................
iam not shure what those commands do coz i am begginers but it is more or less logical lsusb lists all usb devices i guess
and for dmesg | tail -50 wiki says it some kind of diagnostic message..............this was all new to me.

okay after i type dmesg | tail-50 this is the output:

I'm not familiar with this piece of hardware...

[ 222.561824] USBVision[1]: registered USBVision VBI device /dev/vbi0 [v4l2] (Not Working Yet!)

looks like it might not be supported yet, you could google around some more to get a more definitive answer.

post your lsusb output and I'll google around myself, later when i get a chance.

okay, did some digging about, couldn't find anything really specific on that piece of hardware. But, apparently it uses the usbvision module. So as root

Code: Select all
modprobe usbvision

check its loaded ....

Code: Select all
lsmod

Try that, and then see if you can configure a media player to see if you can capture any input from the card.

thanks alot,
the support in sabayon community is really great and helpfull.
including you and lots of people in chat helped me these days to learn stuff in linux i have never seen before.
yes it is subvision module, i did mdprobe usbvision and lsmod, and it is now loaded.....
heh, but now i must figure out how to use it with the media player you are talking about,
does that media player come with sabayon 3.fdvd(32bit) installed.....

i tried to emerge tvtime and then when i try to run it is says "tvtime requires hardware YUY2 overlay support from your video card....blahblah"
my video card is ati redion xpress 1100.....
so i gues this is just one more thing to solve
so far mega thanks for the effort

dude, you're jumping too far ahead.

Just try to get it working simply, i.e. vlc>open capture device, then expand from there
