ethernet card not detected by SL

Postby lramesh » Sat Nov 10, 2007 5:31

I have just installed Sabayon Linux on my new LG laptop (using dual boot, the other Operating system is Windows Vista). However, my ethernet card is not detected by SL.(Vista can connect to internet).

Windows reports the following adapters:

Marvell Yukon 88E8039 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller
Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapters

When I type lspci on a root terminal on SL, the output I get
for ethernet controllers is:

02:00.0 Ethernet controller:Unknown device 0001:4353 (rev 15)
08:00.0 Ethernet controller: Unknown device 0001:001c (rev 01)

uname -a output is (I do not know which version of SL I'm using)

Linux sabayonx86 2-6-19-gentoo-r4 #1 SMP <date> i686 Intel (R) Pentium (R) Dual CPU T2330 @ 1.6GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Can somebody help me troubleshoot this?

Is there a way I can add support to a network device using a USB drive or something? Thanks.

It should be the same as the mac mini intel lan / wifi parts.

try
# modprobe atheros
or using ndiswrapper and 32bit windows wifi card drivers to get this going.

See the "before 3.4e ipw3945...." topic in networking for ndiswrapper info or in the wiki top right of this page.
Also see gentoo.org forums / wiki for the same hardware ie: laptop model or wifi card or lan card using search or google to get the correct info for drivers etc.

You might be on SL 3.4 loop until Sl 3.4a likely or there abouts.
Linux magazine has 3.4e and linux developer something magazine has 3.4a
Someone with similar hardware will post in a bit.
