Can't get my Intel HDA working!

Postby C22H28N2O » Fri Nov 02, 2007 14:12

Hello!

My soundcard doesn't work, and yes, I have looked on the HOWTO on top of this forum, but it doesn't help.

Some info:
Code: Select all
localhost alex # lspci|grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02)

and in KDE controlcenter I get
Code: Select all
Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

It seems that I don't have the dir /dev/dsp?

I'm n00b on Linux, so maybe there is a simple solution to this that I don't see? :D

EDIT: Dell Vostro 1500, Sabayon x86_64.

alsaconf went well, but I've run it several times now. :/

alsamixer says:
Code: Select all
localhost alex # alsamixer

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

EDIT: My laptop is a Dell Vostro 1500. I use the x86_64 version of sabayon.
