Possible wireless bug in 3.4 mini. "encryption"

Postby WarraWarra » Thu Sep 27, 2007 21:32

Installed and all worked well both in live and installed mode. ( bcm4311mcg / dell 1390 )
Then trying to find the errors others has been having I did break my wireless. Only updated dhcp and dhcpcd everything else stayed the same for this testas is from the cd instal of 3.4mini 32bit.

During this I noticed a few things.

This is how to break it.
emerge -s dhcp and updated to 3.1.0 as well as emerged dhcpcd to latest version wifi still working then reconnect and obviously it did not work after trying to use dhcpcd as alternative to dhcp. I did run net-setup a few times during and after this not sure how much impact it had on this breaking part.

knetworkmanager:

statistics = 68 dropped receiving , send = 0 ? looks like it thinks it is sending correct info and then receiving garbage or reads it as garbage. knetworkmanager shows 97% signal.
This did show during the connection attempt and it got stuck at 57% with 2 feet from wifi router as well as 150 foot away.
My lan only got 169.254.xxx.xxx as a result of my actions. Obviously dhcp has issues during this process.
unmerging / remergeing dhcp did not fix this and have to reinstall as a result or chroot + fix it from the inside if possible from live cd.

iwconfig reads only 5 to 10 difference but when knetworkmanager is active or running it shows the same signal as at least 15 to 20 difference and this is better just not sure why the same signal in the same place gives 2 readings ? Maybe knetwk is boosting the signal or fixing a bug in iwconfig / firmware no idea here.

dmesg that might be of interest,

knetworkmanager:
statistics = 68 dropped receiving , send = 0

Using ndiswrapper + win .inf driver = still no connect 57%

dhcp 3.1.0 re-installed and dhcpcd removed.

Recap = 2 different readings in iwconfig , 68 dropped at any distance ? could this be dhcp related or merely covered during normal usage and this way the tolerance is less = issues connecting. Interesting that the dhcp and dhcpcd does not mix and match with latest versions or is causing this.

Currently typing from 3.4 live cd mini
But have also seen that with the firmware for bcm43xx and knetworkmanager the signal is 97% and in iwconfig -55 / -64 and Rx invalid crypt:2120 , firmware / ieee80211 causing this or something else at 2 feet or 150 feet get the same result on any channel but signal strength improves = only difference.

What bugs me is that it is open so it should not have major issues connecting = encryption is buggy ? for this test.
Maybe someone can make head or tails of this and inform who needs to know so it can be fixed / updated.
