For HP Pavilion dv6xxx laptop owners: some help :)

Postby edgevision » Mon Sep 03, 2007 15:04

On Friday, I purchased an HP Pavilion dv6404ca Entertainment PC. Great notebook, great price, school starts in 2 days, had to get it. So I spent the weekend tweaking it, and I thought I would give back a little to the Sabayon community with some details on my adventure with this machine. Here it is, a comprehensive guide to getting Sabayon working perfectly on your new purchase:

The only thing I have yet to get working is the little built-in webcam, which I have heard is possible and I am currently looking into. Contributors welcome! :D And again, thank you to the Sabayon devs for bringing us such a great piece of software.

Cheers all.

You should be able to get the web cam working by using the linux-uvc driver. I know that it works with linux-uvc-svn rev.110.

Thanks for the tip! Emerged linux-uvc and modprobed uvcvideo. It creates /dev/video0, but when I run v4l-conf I get this:

Code: Select all
v4l-conf: using X11 display :0.0
WARNING: v4l-conf is compiled without DGA support.
mode: 1280x800, depth=24, bpp=32, bpl=5120, base=unknown
/dev/video0 [v4l2]: no overlay support

Any ideas?
