problems with IPW2915 wireless

Postby Wintershade » Wed Sep 19, 2007 18:16

I am running Sabayon Mini 3.3b, and my wireless has been working fine until I recently updated the baselayout and it's deps. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but now my wireless card just can't connect. (I have also mentioned my problem in this thread, since there have been more than just wireless issues for me).

The problem manifests in following. When booting, the system shows a warning "net.eth1 had started, but is inactive". I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I mention it in case someone's interested. The real problem comes up when I start wpa_supplicant or try connecting to my wireless network with KNetworkManager. wpa_supplicant says "WPA: 4-Way Handshake failed - pre-shared key may be incorrect", and disconnects, and KNetworkManager asks for WPA key, and after I enter it, it asks again and again, but never connects.
I have double checked the WPA key on my wireless router, and in my wpa_supplicant configuration file, it should be correct.

Anyone have any ideas or leads? Thanks.

See the files listed there as it is from 3.4f and likely the wrong one of the 2 knetworkmanager is installed. Also check dhcp version as 3.0.8 I think had bugs and 3.0.10 or later was working again.
If you can try to make yours to the same file versions as this should fix it. I have the Dell ipw3945 and using this it works.
Keep in mind the ipw3945 does not have as strong signal as the dell 1390 / broadcom bcm4311mcg in any OS with any drivers.

Will post the ipw2915 versions in 3.4f in a few.

If all above stuff fails use the "before 3.4e ipw3945 / bcm43xx" sticky or similar in this network part of the forum to install the windows drivers with ndiswrapper.

Hope this helps.
