XAMPP Hosting Help

Postby promethes » Mon Sep 17, 2007 1:08

Hello everyone,

I have just installed XAMPP onto an old computer that I plan to use for hosting some personal websites, but I am a bit lost at initial configuration. I have XAMPP setup following the instructions at http://www.apachefriends.org, but now I am lost. I can access this website on my computer fine using http://localhost but I do not know how to access the website from another computer.

So basically I can load http://localhost on my old computer, but how do I set it up so I can get to that web page on any computer connected to the internet?

Thanks,
promethes

Do you have a static IP? If you do then that is the address of your web server. Though it might not work if you havent configured your firewall properly or your router properly.

I set up a Window's web server a year ago and then I didn't need to do anything to my ip so I guess that is good.

But I do have a new router I am using and haven't done anything to it. What do I do to configure my router? I have never really done anything with it, I am just using it to take the one internet connection from the wall, feed it into the router, and then feed the router into my 4 computers. This way all my computers have a wired connection. But you say there is something I need to do with my router?

The router is a Linksys NR041 if that helps.
