I caused X to implode

Post by thepld » Mon Sep 03, 2007 7:02

I updated baselayout, and I think I let a change to an XDM config file slip by, the consequence being now KDM doesn't start on startup. What file do I need to edit to fix this? At startup it gives a bunch of " xsetrootdisplay ' ' not found "

/etc/conf.d/xdm - should say kdm for displaymanager

I set DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm" and that didn't help. I'm getting a segfault now in /etc/init.d/splash or something like that.

First of all, this is not the right forum to be posting in.

I've had problems with this before, what worked for me was:

Code: Select all

emerge --unmerge xdm gdm kdm
emerge xdm gdm kdm # or just emerge xdm kdm
Although, I prefer to use

Code: Select all

emerge --nospinner
because it is faster (just a tip :D )
