emerge update world

Postby dedeaux » Mon Aug 27, 2007 14:32

I have a question about keeping the system up2date. Previously under Gentoo I would periodically update those things that I had installed on my Gentoo box. However, having installed Sabayon from the DVD I know there are plenty of package differences in what was installed and what is available in portage. So, can someone tell me why I would or wouldn't do an update world?

:?:

The only differences is the packages in the sabayon overlay

No big deal

can't some experienced sabayon users share a little more on this?

when to use binmerge instead of emerge for example
some info on using the packages.keywords and associated files in etc/portage
maybe if there was some info all on one page like a wiki page for the 32 and another for the 64bit versions of this sabayon distro not gentoo
(quite a few things in this area seem to work totally different to gentoo)
maybe there are some recommended threads ?

just after some opinions on this,
would be nice

this thread is excellent BTW..
