Netgear WN311B with NDISwrapper

Postby homie144 » Sun Aug 26, 2007 22:45

I am using the Netgear WN311B PCI wireless device, but that isn't currently the problem. The problem is that I cant even get NDISwrapper installed! I have the source tar.gz for NDISwrapper 1.47. In terminal I type "tar -xzvf /home/matt/Desktop/ndiswrapper-1.47.tar.gz", and everything works. Then i "cd" to ndiswrapper-1.47, so far so good. I type "sudo make uninstall", type in the password, and it works. Then it starts going wrong. Here is what happened.

[email protected] ~/ndiswrapper-1.47 $ make
make -C driver
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/matt/ndiswrapper-1.47/driver'
Can't find kernel build files in /lib/modules/2.6.20-sabayon-r3/build;
give the path to kernel build directory with
KBUILD=<path> argument to make
make[1]: *** [prereq_check] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/matt/ndiswrapper-1.47/driver'
make: *** [all] Error 2

Then...

[email protected] ~/ndiswrapper-1.47 $ sudo make install
make -C driver install
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/matt/ndiswrapper-1.47/driver'
Can't find kernel build files in /lib/modules/2.6.20-sabayon-r3/build;
give the path to kernel build directory with
KBUILD=<path> argument to make
make[1]: *** [prereq_check] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/matt/ndiswrapper-1.47/driver'
make: *** [install] Error 2
[email protected] ~/ndiswrapper-1.47 $

I have no idea what any of this means so any help would be appreciated. When I do finnaly get it installed, I'm not sure if it work from there because this is wireless N with WPA2-PSK(AES) security.

Any reason why you do not just use ?
# emerge ndiswrapper
and then it does pritty much everything for you. except add the driver .inf

I tried that and nothing happened. Maybe it is because I am using a mini-edition?

Nothing happened ?

Are you sure you wrote that to console being logged in as root ? I doubt it did completelly nothing.

btw. It has nothing to do with mini edition, portage works on all editions.

OK. I did the emerge command and it did this:

So then I went and manually got ndiswrapper-1.39.tar.gz and placed it in /usr/portage/distfiles, then I did emerge again:

Another thing. If someone does figure it out would I have to search for and delete the files created by this half install type thing?

UH OH. I found out that the mini editions don't come with kernel sources. What do I do now? :(

To add kernel sources in mini 3.3

layman -S && emerge --sync
USE="symlink" emerge =sabayon-sources-2.6.20-r3
zcat /proc/config.gz > /usr/src/config
