'emerge --sync' fails

Postby pajamabama » Sat Aug 18, 2007 20:13

As noted in the subject line, running 'emerge --sync' is failing, and actually breaking something in portage, so that after running it emerge fails every time. This is happening while running the SL 3.4e live dvd. I'm not going to try it on my installed system since I've seen how it screws things up.

Is this likely to be a (temporary?) problem with something on the portage servers? I did sync before on this same dvd and it was ok. Here's what it gives:

After downloading the latest ebuilds, it proceeds to 'Performing Global Updates:'

Code: Select all
...
Performing Global Updates: /usr/portage/profiles/updates/3Q-2007
(Could take a couple of minutes if you have a lot of binary packages.)
  .='update pass'  *='binary update'  @='/var/db move'
  s='/var/db SLOT move' S='binary SLOT move' p='update /etc/portage/package.*'
...............................
@Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 5547, in ?
    retval = emerge_main()
  File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 5504, in emerge_main
    action_sync(settings, trees, mtimedb, myopts, myaction)
  File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 4224, in action_sync
    if portage.global_updates(settings, trees, mtimedb["updates"]):

I'm doing this on the live dvd because I want to make sure that the fixes described in this thread about libGL.so will work before actually installing.[/url]
