Booting the LiveCD

Postby SmilingHand » Sat Jul 28, 2007 18:56

I am aware that there have been several posts with the same title but i have not found the answer to my problem yet. (even though i have checked all three pages of posts). I am a rather new user of linux, even though i have come in touch with it several times during the last 3 years.

My Toys:
I have a Intel P4 2.6Ghz, 256Mb of Ram, a 128Mb ati radeon 9200se video card and a asus cd-writer. I have downloaded the SabayonLinux-x86-3.3b.miniEdition and burned it on a cd (i have downloaded it twice from two different mirrors and burned it twice: once a 16x and at 4x).

What i have done:
I have inserted the cd into the unit and chose to start the live installation (or how it is named) and waited. During the loading process everything went well (in verbose mode everything was marked with ok :) ) Then the Booting The System window appears. It loads rather fast till it gets to approximately two thirds of the whole process. It then hangs. The cd-writers`s led and keeps flashing, the harddisks led also flickers, and nothing else happens. Whether i choose any other option (at the begining) i end up with the same problem. I must say that i have let the system boot for 30 minutes and it did not advance at all.

I really want to make it work on my 4-year-old computer. If any of you have any idea, please do not hesitate to answer!

-two cd-s two types of media: one of them i`ve been using for more than 3 years and no problem `till now

-any other details about my hardware, please do not hesitate to ask

-extremely reliable cd-writer!!!!!

-what error could i make??? There is only one hit of a key (or many if using cheat codes)

-RAM works fine (i have tested it with an utility from a mandriva livecd (from what i remember))

installed and worked:

Mandrake 10.0
Suse 10.0
Ubuntu 6.03
Kubuntu 7.04
Mandriva One 2007
Mandriva One Spring 2007

i have also booted-up the gentoo live cd that was available for download at the begining og january 2007 but didn`t manage to install it! It kept failing at compiling a package.

And now i have Mandriva One Spring but it hangs alot because (i believe this is the problem) my ati drivers. None made such problems to me before :(
