you don't need to install it from source. you can installing using portage (the package manager for gentoo+sabayon).
you can type the following command in the terminal
emerge -Dv portato

also, there is already a graphical interface for portage installed in sabayon and it is called Kuroo.

Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion, but when I entered the command you mentioned I got
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "portato".
What now?

There is no "portato" to emerge.
Tell us where we can download this program to help you, because i cant find any program with google named portato.

usally source packages are installed like this in the terminal as root:

Code: Select all

cd /path/to/folder_program
./configure
make
make install

oh yes, you want the package manager for gentoo.
just as root press

Code: Select all

emerge portage

And if you want later press

Code: Select all

emerge --search portage

to choose which extra packages fit on you

run:

Code: Select all

layman -o http://portato.sf.net/layman.xml -S && layman -o http://portato.sf.net/layman.xml -a portato

then emerge portato

Oo ... as of http://overlays.gentoo.org/proj/sunrise ... ge/portato it seems to be there ... :)

@jmak: If you are using the portato-overlay - please use the version "0.7.5" -- not the "9999" :). But best would it be if you do a

Code: Select all

layman -d portato && layman -s sunrise && emerge -av portato
. This should install the version from the sunrise overlay.
Reason: One overlay less (;)) - and version "9999" sometimes is broken as it is the developer version.
