External HD Filesystem

What is the best filesystem to use on an external hard drive? The hard drive will be used on both linux and windows, and I probably need something journaling due to the unreliable power supply here in Baghdad.

If you have 32bit Windows XP I would recommend ext3. On Windows you can then use fs-driver, http://www.fs-driver.org/ .

However, ntfs could be a better choice with ntfs-3g. Just stay away from fat32.
