Evening! (solved)

Postby Izo » Tue Feb 13, 2007 22:05

Evening/morning/afternoon!

Izo here. It's a real honour to post here. I've been checking Sabayon now for a couple of days, reading about it, it's features and looks and so forth, and when my mouth started to drool and I knew it was time to give it a go. :D

Currently, I'm downloading the Live DVD via BitTorrent which is taking ages ... so I've not got Sabayon on yet. Currently, I'm running Ubuntu Dapper with XGL and Beryl on an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ box. Ubuntu was my first Linux distro back in Nov' 2006, and I've never looked back.

But after seeing Sabayon, with a wonderful colour scheme, sexy graphics, fantastic new Kmenu alternative, and an "out-of-the-box" mentality, I decided to give Sabayon a try. :)

I can't program or anything like that ... so I've contributed to Ubuntu with my graphics, submitting mainly wallpapers and some posters, postcards, leaflets as well. I hope that, should Sabayon work on my system and everything, that I can offer my graphics design skills to the Sabayon community. :)

Speak to you soon. Eventually, Sabayon will be mine ... just gotta wait for the damn thing to download on a slow 512kB/s connection ...

Well, it finally finished downloading today and after I got back from work I spent the evening backing up my important files and installing Sabayon. :)

OMFG! Sabayon is unbelievable! You guys are on to a winner here! Everything works, out of the box no worries. My first proper bootup left me with no internet access, but after restarting that sorted itself out.

At the moment, I only have one query, and I wonder if any of you wonder people could answer it for me ...

I have a 17¨ CRT monitor and a nVidia GeForce FX 5200. When I was on Ubuntu, after much tweaking around, and restarting X Server, I could eventually get the monitor to display 1280x960, but the common resolution was always 1024x768.

On Sabayon, it seems 1024x768 is my max resolution, even though I know I can get higher. How do I fix this?

well if you are using the livecd/dvd try the cheat codes

res=1280x960

on the boot menu screen hit F5 and add the above line into the existing stuff, it should than boot with that resolution and if you do the install it should keep that resolution. What you see when u do the install is usually what you get. Otherwise you will have to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to get it.

Or you can try my xorg.conf editing tool, it can make those kind of changes.
