<rant> This would (and regularly does) affect HF radio communications which use the Ionosphere to bounce signals off. Any other signals IE satellite would be unaffected. Satellite uses microwaves which are relayed by other satellites to ground stations. HF is very rarely used. To be fair all this would do is lower the Ionosphere so anyone using HF comms would only need to re-position thier antenna.mars wrote:This happens more often. On the topic of a larger body removing our magnetic field. It would have to be something ridiculously strong (white dwarf / neutron star) passing very near by. If that happened the least of your worries would be solar flares. I used to study Physics to quite a high level, this kind of trite really annoys me. </rant>
