DisplayCAL is gone too??

Post by msdobrescu » Sat May 30, 2020 18:01

Hi, I see many unique tools going dropped of Sabayon.
What happened to DisplayCAL? Why is this gone now?

Yes, but, a distro should be a service for its users.

We can't go maintain Python2 and everything depending on that because upstream is to lazy to fix their code.

DisplayCAL is also being dropped from OpenSuse and other distros. The upstream developer states he is in no hurry to fix it. Not really our problem.

"Yes, but, a distro should be a service for its users."
Indeed and certainly to keep them safe, therefor, EOL Python 2 must be removed.

I would agree with you, but how do we manage colour calibration?
Although I don't know the reason, the guy might have his own problems that prevent him upgrading it. so I can't simply blame him.
Are there any other apps in the row to the dropping train?
I remember a promised replacement for FSLint that never came... or did I miss something? I know Gentoo did not add dupeguru yet. Did they adopt something else?
Also, how long does it take to adopt a new version? Darktable, for instance, version 3 was released 5 months ago.

On a repository with 16k packages we can't go over each thing like you are now. It simply isn't possible.
I hope you trust us on handling this complexity.

What you are asking is impossible. We can't in front predict what we are going to have to drop.
