ISO problem - older GPU [Solved]

Post by willianholtz » Sun Apr 14, 2019 17:51

Hello, I want to migrate from Arch linux to Sabayon, however my GPU is old, version 9300M, the iso is not compatible with it, how to do an installation with this GPU?

Thanx!

When you boot the LiveDVD or LivePenDrive, press 'e' at the GRUB menu and append either 'xdriver=nv' or 'xdriver=nvidia' to the end of the kernel boot line then press F10 to boot:

Try that to see if you get any further.

It does not load any type of driver, I've already tried vesa, nv, nvidia, nouveau. It simply appears a message saying: Gpu will be ignored, no driver.

From what I've read, version 340xx has been discontinued, I wonder: Would Sabayon be just for new computers? Arch Linux that says it: p

How about if you blacklist the nvidia driver?:

https://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?titl ... N_-_NVIDIA

Code: Select all

modprobe.blacklist=nvidia xdriver=vesa
or the nouveau driver?:

Code: Select all

modprobe.blacklist=nouveau xdriver=vesa

or both "NV" drivers

Code: Select all

modprobe.blacklist=nouveau,nvidia,nv xdriver=vesa

Solved.
I installed the latest version of the diary, uninstalled the version of nvida that came with iso, and sent a modprobe in the nouveau driver. It was 100%. Thank you to everyone who helped me in a way.

Another thing, how does the kernel update work? Is the update automatic, or should I upgrade the kernel myself? If it is automatic, how do I not upgrade with the system, I would like to freeze the version on my machine.

I assume you mean 'daily'.

Code: Select all

# kernel-switcher --help
See the Sabayon Linux Wiki for how to use the package manager, including how to upgrade the kernel.
