Lirc + Hauppauge + VLC (mainly...)

Post by msdobrescu » Sun Jul 08, 2018 5:56

Hello,

I try to setup my Hauppauge remote rontrol, a PT# R-005, to work with VLC, and others, like Clementine, Kodi, for example.
I've tried to do as in several pages over the Internet, including Gentoo.
But it seems to break the apps, rather than make them work with it:

Code: Select all

vlc
VLC media player 3.0.3 Vetinari (revision 3.0.2-225-gc9e3360dd4)
[00005585490d31d0] main interface error: no suitable interface module
[0000558548ffb3f0] main libvlc error: interface "lirc, none" initialization failed
Remote control interface initialized. Type `help' for help.
[000055854900b050] main playlist: playlist is empty
...then exited.

I couldn't figure out what happents, so I have reset vlc and use without lirc.

There must be something I misunderstand. From the defaults, I see the OS already works with it in some degree, as the volume can be adjusted, so I presume the procedures I've found over the Internet are not completely aplicable anymore.
Could somebody proveide me the right steps, please?

Simple. VLC is compiled without Lirc support.

I don't think is necessary. Could be part of this useful?

From that, I understood kernel should have the lirc flag.
Why the volume is adjusting from the remote too?

not kernel related but lirc use flag for VLC

you can try to compile by your self

Code: Select all

# USE="lirc" emerge vlc --ask
and check if VLC works

Hi, I try to use lirc for a start.
Who can tell me what should I do to be able to initialize it?
The Lirc documentation seems detailed, but I am unsure what services should I enable, as I see a lirc service and a lirc socket. Should I enable both for systemd?
