If Cuda will be enabledc , those that use ATI-drivers will download nvidia-drivers (of course... it's deps.)

Although many projects are running cuda 4.2

:roll:

[edit] doesn't matter if Boinc doesn't detect the driver version installed

Hi guys,

I've installed Sabayon on a new laptop however BOINC from the repo is not working. It cannot connect to localhost and I don't have any /var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg for example. (Usually the issue to forget set the password)

So I'm not sure what to do....how does it work in your case?

PS: I've tried to install BOINC manually from Berkely SH, but now with Gnome 3.12, I do not have Startup application where I could write a command to start up (/home/myuser/Download/BOINC/run_client usually)
How to solve this?

Thanks for your help!

Hi

you can run boinc in your favourite location (not only /var/lib/boinc) as your user
(Boinc service must be running ... )

Install Boinc

Code: Select all

# equo i boinc
Enable the service

Code: Select all

# systemctl enable boinc.service
default running directory is located to /var/lib/boinc but you can setup other path.Example work directory stored in your home)

edit /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/boinc.service

you'll have something like :
(edit User,Group and working directory)
[Unit]
Description=BOINC Daemon

[Service]
User=<your_user>
Group=users
Nice=19
# Setting up boinc directory in your home (or where you want)
ExecStart=/usr/bin/boinc_client --dir /home/<your_user>/boinc --redirectio

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
save and exit

Start the service ; will create the boinc working directory

Code: Select all

# systemctl start boinc.service
stop the service ; now you can edit the auth file

Code: Select all

# systemctl stop boinc.service
as user , edit auth file (example : without any password):

Code: Select all

$ echo "" > ~/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg
restart the service

Code: Select all

# systemctl start boinc.service
run the boinc manager and setup all parameters for your computing

Thanks for the tuto!
But it didn't create the boinc working file...So I've created myself with user priviledges but it doesn't work neither...no gui_rpc_auth.cfg and if I want to stop the daemon it hungs for quite long time so I need to kill it...

Any idea how to solve this?

if you are using /var/lib/boinc directory , add you ruser to boinc groups

your user must have wrtite privileges to /var/lib/boinc directory (default boinc:boinc)

Code: Select all

# gpasswd -a <your_user> boinc
and

Code: Select all

 # chmod 775 -R /var/lib/boinc
(logout and relogin to make active the changes)
I suggest to put boinc work directory inside your home directory or where your user has write permissions

as I explained

It's actually what I did initially, to change the path to /home/myuser/boinc...but it did not create the folder when I started the service...

Hi Sabayonlino,

Here is my boinc.service file:

Code: Select all

[Unit]
Description=BOINC Daemon

[Service]
User=karibu
Group=user
Nice=19
ExecStart=/usr/bin/boinc_client --dir /home/karibu/boinc --redirectio

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
Actually, it has created the boinc folder at the next restart.
But still no gui_rpc_auth.cfg

And when I launch boincmgr with my user I got:

Code: Select all

execvp(/home/karibu/boinc, --redirectio, --launched_by_manager) failed with error 13!
Thanks for your help!
