Changing splash screens

Post by vito-linux » Tue May 28, 2013 13:58

Hi, i'm using sabayon since last week (Gnome) and I really like it, it's fast, goodlooking and I think equo is fantastic.

But I'd like to change splash screens (i don't know how to call them, the screens that appears after grub, they're located in /etc/splash/sabayon/images) How to?? Thankyou

Are you looking for something like splashutils?

Note: I haven't tried yet. In the Gentoo world, there is fbsplash.

so if splashutils is for customising post-grub screen only,
and we already inherit fbsplash from all things gentoo...
why did the current update ask me to uninstall it?
why was splashutils installed in the first place? o_O

I tried this a while back and I found an old howto somewhere in the documentation.
It had a big warning that it was deprecated and dangerous but it worked...and if I recall it correct:
Changing the splash screens found in /etc/splash/sabayon/images won't work.
Assuming you are using genkernel you probably need to unpack and repack /boot/initramfs-genkernel-xversionx-sabayon and change the screens /etc/splash/sabayon/images inside it.
