Session in KDE. Using all the RAM, only in KDE [Solved]

Postby albfneto » Mon May 26, 2014 21:28

This is an strange problem in one (fully upgraded) of my Sabayon installations.

when a session is opened in KDE, fast, in 3 ou 4 minutes, all the RAM is used, 8 Giga...
also uses all the Swap, and after more one or two minutes, the graphical environmment dissapears and the system is "running out of memory",
then fades away and is fullyfreezed, without memory.

Only resetting, and then, the problem remains again, if KDE is used.

The problem only occurs, when the session opened in KDE, not in MATE or in XFCE.

the "top" command, or the package "htop" show that the main consumer is kworker, the second is kdeinit...., but even when the comp is not used, no clicks, no command,no navigation... the use of memory increases by itself, until crash ou halt...

in KDE, the comp is not usable. As expected, when all the run is used, it reads the HDD all the time.

The problem only occurs is KDE,
for example, this, in which i write this, is the same comp, the same Sabayon, but a session is XFCE is opened. normal behaviour

Solved.

As i seen in HTOP, was caused by the DropBox process, loadind, opening several instances.

Killing the process:

Code: Select all
# killall dropbox

solved the issue.
