Netflix desktop for Sabayon?

Post by gocool » Tue Jul 23, 2013 15:50

Ubuntu packaged a nice desktop app called netflix-desktop which can be directly downloaded from the repository. I guess its a combination of Wine-Silverlight-Firefox. Can anything like that be pacakged and put in entropy for we noobs to enjoy netflix?

Click here to know what I am talking about.

I don't see a nice neat ebuild for it yet, but here's how it looks to currently be done in gentoo: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-951092.html

Whether you opt to follow that or not, it should come in useful if somebody wants to come along and package it up for entropy.

So Pipelight 0.2.3 is now in the Sabayon repos. I've installed it, and tried to follow instructions here to get Netflix working: https://answers.launchpad.net/pipelight/+faq/2351

I've used the recommended Firefox add-on "user agent overrider" and set my user agent to one of the recommended Windows Firefox settings. However, I'm still getting errors that Silverlight has crashed. Has anyone successfully got Netflix to work on Sabayon yet?

Doubt it matters, but Pipelight is recently updated to 0.2.4.1, though not in Sabayon yet.

Perhaps it's about Bug #4568. If you carltonh have experienced this bug, you could confirm it.

@Stupot:
Ebuild is in sabayon overlay, was forked from paddymac overlay.

That must be it, I've added confirmation to the bug report.

Netflix isn't working for me with pipelight either. I got the user agent thing working, so it's not that.

However, I'm able to get this site to work: http://www.iis.net/media/experiencesmoothstreaming
Sabayon KDE 64Bit Edition
Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Yeah, my post was from July 23, 2013, so it's not surprising it's out of date. :P

Anyone able to figure out a workaround short of compiling WINE with the DRM patches?

I posted a new thread in the bugs and DRM solution, but it seems that they would not build the new version so pipelight.
