systemd and software RAID volumes [Solved]

Postby majvan » Sun Aug 25, 2013 10:30

Hello,

after switching to systemd I cannot boot into default level. The problem is with mounting /home which is on software RAID volume.
Code: Select all
Job dev-mapper-MY1\x2d\x2dNB2\x2d\x2dHDD\x2dlv_home.device/start timed out.
Timed out waiting for device dev-mapper-MY1\x2d\x2dNB2\x2d\x2dHDD\x2dlv_home.device

and boot stops. Then I login into rescue console and type:
mount /home <-- this successfully mounts the /home according fstab (mapper volume), no errors
systemctl default <-- starts normally

Do you know where is the issue? Thanks.

Hello, some time has passed and I still cannot resolve the issue.
The partition is not encrypted, nothing special.

After emergency console login I do:
Code: Select all
mount /home

which executes with no errors and /home is mounted. Then I logout and boot continues with no issue.

are mdadm.service and/or lvm2 service files enabled and running at bootup?
You c an check the status:
Code: Select all
systemctl status mdadm.service

If not , enable and start...
Code: Select all
systemctl enable mdadm.service

Code: Select all
systemctl daemon-reload

Well, thank you for the reply.
The mdadm.service was not running= inactive (dead).
I enabled the service and ran daemon-reload
It did not help.
After systemctl reboot the situation is still the same (mdadm.service not running= inactive (dead) ).

RAID is not really my specialty, but here's a guy with similar problem and solution:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=282602
Can you try that?
If it aint work, I'm sure you must be missing some module or service not loading, or missing config file.,
i'm just not knowledgable enough to tell you what...

Do you have "domdadm" in the kernel command line?
Code: Select all
cat /proc/cmdline

That did not help. The volume is all right with no issues.

Not sure what you're doing and how, but you are most likely doing it wrong. Probably, your /etc/fstab entry is incorrect wrt what systemd expects...

Re: systemd and software RAID volumes

Hello,

domdadm is in the kernel command line.
Well, I would say the same, but the question is how come the explicit command
Code: Select all
mount /home

works. It must find the entry in the fstab, right? Why it cannot mount (but it wants) during startup?

The issue was in the kernel version. I updated the kernel and it started to work.
Thanks to all!
