problem with package (cuda toolkit)[Solved]

Postby fjkhf » Wed Dec 11, 2013 18:06

Hello,

I want to use nsight debugging from nvidia.It is distributed through cuda toolkit.
I have installed the package nvidia-cuda-toolkit-5.5.22 (and thecuda-sdk) from repositories but it seems it does not contain nsight tool (or something else ,I don't know) because when I execute ./nsight it gives me:

Code: Select all
    ./nsight: line 3: /opt/cuda/bin/../libnsight/nsight: no such file or folder

The problem is that I can't download the source package (https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads) because it doesn't exist in tar.gz .

Anything I can do?

Thanks!

Perhaps:
Code: Select all
equo i -a dev-util/nvidia-cuda-sdk

I'm not familiar with this, but note that packages in Entropy are provided with -debug USE flag:
Code: Select all
equo s -v nvidia-cuda

Still nothinh..the same message:

./nsight: line 3: /opt/cuda/bin/../libnsight/nsight: no such file or folder

I only have /opt/cuda/bin/nsight ,there is no libnsight folder.

Does nsight work with you?Using these packages?

Also , I am not sure what to do with
Code: Select all
equo s -v nvidia-cuda

Thanks!

according with nvidia site :
Code: Select all
1.3.1. Core Files

bin/
    nvcc                         CUDA C/C++ compiler
    cuda-gdb                     CUDA Debugger
    cuda-memcheck                CUDA Memory Checker
    nsight                       Nsight Eclipse Edition (Linux and Mac OS)
    nvprof                       NVIDIA Command-Line Profiler
    nvvp                         NVIDIA Visual Profiler (Located in libnvvp/
                                                         on Windows)

nsight depends on eclipse useflag in cuda-toolkit
Code: Select all
dev-util/nvidia-cuda-toolkit
     Available versions:  4.2.9-r2 ~4.2.9-r3(0/4.2.9) ~5.0.35-r2 ~5.0.35-r3 ~5.0.35-r4(0/5.0.35) ~5.5.22(0/5.5.22) {debugger doc eclipse profiler}
     Homepage:            http://developer.nvidia.com/cuda
     Description:         NVIDIA CUDA Toolkit (compiler and friends)

and in entropy this flag is disable for this package
Code: Select all
USE flags     -profiler abi_x86_64 amd64 multilib kernel_linux elibc_glibc -doc -debugger -eclipse userland_GNU

you can recompile nvidia-cuda-toolkit yourself or please file a bug request : https://bugs.sabayon.org/

Code: Select all
# USE="eclipse" emerge nvidia-cuda-toolkit && equo rescue spmsync

I have already filed 2 bug requests but I haven't received a response...

If I use :

Code: Select all
# USE="eclipse" emerge nvidia-cuda-toolkit && equo rescue spmsync

would I have problems with entropy?And what about after an upgrade?

Thank you.

I don't know if will be "problems"

check what the system install

The command
Code: Select all
# USE="eclipse" emerge nvidia-cuda-toolkit --pretend
didn't return anything.

Also , I was refering to this https://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Safely_mix_Entropy_and_Portage.

Hm. According to man page of emerge, proper syntax would be:
Code: Select all
# USE="eclipse" emerge -pv nvidia-cuda-toolkit

About mixing… you can paste output of command, and if it'll seem safe to run you can run it without -p option.

Oh, and make sure that you actually have ebuilds. (I.e., have you synced Portage tree?) If you haven't done so, you can run:
Code: Select all
# emerge-webrsync
