How to install/update a standalone PC with sabayon [Solved]

Post by dewete » Tue Oct 22, 2013 18:40

Hi,

without any problems I installed the last 2 weeks several different laptops with Sabayon using entropy on a harddisks with 1 W7/W8-partition and encrypted linux-partitions. The same by searching for and installing needed software.

But: how to update after installation via dvd a system if the pc isn't connected to the internet? And I have to install on a fakeraid 0 with 1 W7-partition?

From Kubuntu/Debian I know apt-mirror: that makes it possible to download platform-depending binaries and selected repositories. For example as the target for the download I defined an external USB-harddisk. And on the standalone-pc I defined in the sources.list as installation source the external harddisk.

Is there similiar that works on the same way under Sabayon?

Thanks

Detlef

Without an internet connection it's going to be a pain in the butt. I know you can proxy with entropy, but if you don't have another machine around for that, than you probably gonna have to download the packages you need and transfer em over. The apt-mirror sounds like it would be a nice feature for entropy.

In today's world, everybody is expected to be connected to the cloud I guess. The gaming industry is feeling the heat from this also.

Hello,

just one question: have anyone a link to a "Howto proxy entropy"?

Thanks,
Detlef

I don't know of any 'How To', but you should be able to edit the file /etc/entropy/entropy.conf and add the details of a proxy server, as shown by the examples in the comments in that file:

Code: Select all

[email protected] ~ $ cat /etc/entropy/entropy.conf | grep proxy
#  syntax for ftp-proxy:
#    ftp-proxy: If you connect to the Internet through a proxy, add the URL for FTP connections here
#    ftp-proxy = <URL string>
#    ftp-proxy = http://127.0.0.1:3128

I am new to this forum, and I'm trying to find a download link for a full version of Linux. Can you help?
